Running filling

I made this recipe. But the filling turned out to be very watery, not pasty enough for me to spread it. The filling ended up running all over the rolled-out dough. I couldn't even use up all the filling. The finished result was somewhat like a cinnamon roll. It didn't have the thick layers of the poppy seed filling :-(. It still tasted good, but not the result I was looking for though.
